Ruminations, ramblings and reflections...

The Internet allows us to share our thoughts in real time with people around the globe. We hope you enjoy our ruminations, ramblings and reflections. Sometimes we'll write about our industry and the practice of PR and marketing. Or, we might just spout-off about something we've seen, heard or observed.

Either way, enjoy. And drop us an e-mail. We'd love to hear from you!

Donor Alliance urges Latinos to say "yes"

As Hispanic Heritage month spans from September 15- October 15, Donor Alliance, the nonprofit organ procurement organization that serves Colorado and Wyoming, is urging the Latino community to register their decision to be organ and tissues and talk to their families about donation. More than 1,700 people in Colorado and Wyoming are waiting for a lifesaving transplant. More than 400 of them are Latino. Tony and his wife are two of those 400. They have been waiting for kidney transplants for more than a year and are asking the community to say "yes" to donation.

Consulting isn't eating what you kill

Ok, I'm setting the record straight. I was wrong. Ten years ago I wrote a story that still results in calls and e-mails from around the globe. It was a piece on consulting -- eating what you kill. Read on for a different perspective... | Read story

That's some dress code!

At Denver's famed University Club visitors are greeted with a sign that reads: "In keeping with the revised dress code, if you are wearing jeans please remove them before entering The University Club."

If that's revised protocol, wonder what the policy was before? Underwear optional?

That's customer service!

Any small business owner will tell you, they can't survive without FedEx-Kinkos! So it was late last night, 12:30 a.m. to be precise, when I stumbled in the Denver-Cherry Creek FedEx-Kinkos for some copying and binding.

"Could you have it finished by 10 a.m." I asked. "Oh, I can do it now," said a bright and pleasant young man. "Really," I said. "Wow! That would be wonderful. May I buy you a cup of coffee while I'm waiting?"

Opting for an energy drink instead, my new best friend made quick work of my project and I went home to sleep knowing I would get my project submitted well ahead of the deadline. That's customer service, even for the sleep-deprived. brad@morethanpr.com

A half-written thank you note kills the job offer

One of our clients was looking for an internal marketing coordinator. When the leading candidate for the job sent a half-written thank you note to the interviewer, the candidate was dismissed from the process. Ouch. Whatever the reason for the error, the employer couldn't get past the lack of attention to detail in the candidate's note. Which is a lesson to us: slow down...get it right the first time! brad@morethanpr.com

The early bird DOES get the worm...

We recently won a new client which is cause for celebration in and of itself. Later, we learned the client had interviewed several other firms but we were the only group willing to make a 6 a.m. meeting with the principals. It wasn't the only reason we won the account, but it didn't hurt us.

Now I know what they mean by "the early bird gets the worm!" brad@morethanpr.com
